From the success of American Dream Part 1, Playdead was commissioned by Wondros once again to create 2 more bespoke commercials, helping promote the charity, Home Matters.
We achieved the aesthetic by hand-crafting the set and characters from found material and using a linear set, filmed with a Canon 1100D against a green screen, which took over 5 days to shoot. Some elements of the set, such as the city outside the window were added in post production. The set was carefully designed to represent modern America, from the bars on the windows to the picket fencing, mailbox and trash cans.
We created the commercial for Home Matters, a national movement that is redefining the American Dream, believing that the New American Dream is one where every American lives in a safe, nurturing environment with access to quality education, healthcare, public spaces and community services. More than half a million people in the United States do not have a home, a quarter of these individuals are children.
American Dream Part 1 won the 2017 RTS Scotland Award for Best Short Form Content, and has been BAFTA nominated. Let’s hope for equally great things for Part 2!
